curses again
June 16th, 2006 | techCompaq was sick again Thursday. I turned it on and a pop-up appeared saying that Windows couldn’t load my user profile. Instead it loaded a ‘temporary’ or generic user desktop. I could see my program icons like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Gaim were there, but nothing in my folders. No photos, mp3s, videos…no files at all. My own computer kicked me out of it’s system.
I have the feeling that a Windows update late Wednesday night is the reason for my latest miserable problem. It’s for Defender Beta program…an anti-spyware program. In the past I checked my update history every once in a while only to see about half of the Defender Beta updates failed. I’ve mentioned my hate for Beta programs numerous times, but it was the only anti-spyware option available from the windows site at the time.
So now laptop is again out of order. And of course Microsoft tech support is dragging it’s feet replying to emails. The best thing is that I don’t NEED any files on that computer. I can use HP when internet access is needed, and there aren’t any timely files on Compaq that I can’t re-download. I’m not worried that my files are gone forever…I think I just need to get my profile back.
This problem comes exactly two days after I decided I was happy with my current computer setup and decided rather than buying a MacBook Pro I’d get a new Laney VC30 212 combo and a fireglo Rickenbacker 360 guitar. Well, maybe the MacBook Pro option is back in the picture…although I’d really like to wait on getting one until that new processor comes out late this year/early next year (from what I’ve been told).

How things change. Yesterday I thought I’d be happy getting my car fixed and throwing a Thule rack on it. Now I’m searching Craigslist for motorcycles.

A motorcycle? Cool. What style…C-rocket sport bike or more like a cruiser/touring bike?
Summer of ‘97 I took the written test to get my motorcycle temp license. I think the whole time I had it I never drove a motorcycle. Oh well, it was only $10.
And an update for everyone: the microsoft tech contacted me, but I’m still working on getting Compaq to work normal again.

I don’t want a cruiser and I don’t want a full-fledged crotchrocket either. If I do buy something relatively new (which would then be delayed until next summer) it would be something like this, this, or this. Otherwise I’ll just continue to look around for cheap old bikes.

Those 3 examples all look nice. I almost like the Suzuki the best. I’m not a fan of the full on crotchrockets.
Now I’m curious and have to see what BMW currently offers in the motorcycle dept…
