copycat originals

It’s bugging the hell out of me and I don’t know how much longer I can take it. I’m talking about the advertising for the new Ford Fusion, be it tv or magazine. Actually, it’s not the ads that are bugging me, it’s just that rounded-corners square with the ‘D’ inside it that I find bothersome. Why? Well, because everytime I see that logo (or whatever you want to call it) I think of Honda’s logo. I can’t help thinking that Ford is stealing Honda’s logo. Did they do this on purpose?

For years now Ford has focused on SUV and truck sales. This year they are acknowledging that it might be a good idea to have a decent car in their vechicle lineup. Of course Honda and Toyota currently have a strong hold on the car market. So I can’t help thinking that Ford wants to emulate Honda so much that they are trying to use Honda’s logos as well.

Now, I could go on and on complaining about this situation, but quite honestly I’m tired and I have already stated all my arguments, so I’ll end this post on the short side.

That’s an interesting observation, and something that hadn’t occurred to me. There was actually just an article about this and other end-of-commercial animations where they complimented Ford in a good execution of a potentially boring concept.

Your point about Ford’s newfound interest in the car market is something I’ve noticed as well, not only with Ford but also with GM and to a lesser extent Chrysler (and by that I mean that they’ve already been pretty generous with the LX platform cars). It is nice to see even if Ford doesn’t feel that we’re worthy of the GT anymore and were never deserving of the new Focus.
