pbs is great tv

January 25th, 2006 | tv

Yes I know, lots of tv posts lately. This will be the last for a while…maybe. Anyways, within the last year or so I’ve grown to really dig the BBC. The website is great as it has info on just about everything in the world. I also found the show Battlefield Britain to be quite interesting, which is a BBC show, but was shown on PBS too.

Now I notice that PBS is once again showing some interesting BBC programming. On Saturday nights at 8:50pm you can now watch a weird show that I caught bits and pieces of called Jeeves and Wooster. I have little idea as to the plot of the show, but Hugh Laurie (a.k.a. Dr. House) is Wooster. I think I might just watch the whole show this week.

After Jeeves another BBC show airs at 9:45pm. You might have heard of this one: The Office. The difference is this is the original show, not the USA copycat version on NBC. Yeah sure it’s a few years old now, but eh, it’s still interesting to watch.

Now of course there are some other BBC shows that air on PBS that are boring, and there are quite a few “PBS original” programs and can easily put viewers to sleep. But when compared to even a couple years ago you have to admit that PBS is getting better…albeit slowly.

PBS does have some fun shows. There was a span of time where I would get home from work and immediately turn on Arthur for no good reason. Lately I haven’t watched it as much though I’d like to see The Office in its native form.

There was only a brief period last summer when we got our HDTV that had the built-in tuner that we became slightly addicted to PBS-HD which is simulcast as a second channel along regular old PBS. It’s really not that exciting unless you happen to tune it at a time where their programming is true HD - then it’s amazing.
